The Ladakh Marathon is one of the world's highest marathons, starting and finishing in Leh at approximately 3,500m elevation. The course winds through the stunning high-altitude desert landscape of Ladakh, featuring spectacular views of snow-capped Himalayas, Buddhist monasteries, and traditional Ladakhi villages. Runners experience significant altitude challenges combined with moderate elevation changes across the route.
September in Ladakh offers mild, crisp weather with clear skies and low humidity. Temperatures are cool due to high altitude, with significant temperature variations between sun and shade. Thin air and intense UV radiation are primary weather considerations.

The Race

Leh
Established in 2012, the Ladakh Marathon is now 14 years old. From its first edition in Leh, it has evolved into a race that reflects the character of its host region in India.
With 650m of elevation gain, the Ladakh Marathon is not a course for the faint-hearted. The climbs are where races are won and lost — where the gap between training and undertrained reveals itself without mercy. Locals say the course doesn't beat you; it just waits for you to beat yourself.
The Ladakh Marathon carries an "extreme" difficulty rating for good reason. The combination of terrain, conditions, and distance creates an event where finishing is a genuine achievement. Drop-out rates are high, preparation requirements are serious, and the line between adventure and misadventure is thin.
