The Lewa Safari Marathon is run through the stunning Lewa Conservancy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Kenya's semi-arid landscape. Runners navigate rolling terrain with panoramic views of Mount Kenya and the surrounding savanna, passing through wildlife habitat while supporting conservation efforts. The course is a loop starting and finishing at the conservancy headquarters.
June is warm with moderate humidity and occasional rain showers typical of Kenya's dry season transition. Expect intense sun exposure with minimal shade on the savanna course; cooling trade winds provide some relief.
Isiolo
The Safaricom Marathon was founded in 2000, during the golden age of mass-participation running. Now 26 years old, it has established itself as a beloved fixture in Isiolo, growing from its early editions into a race with genuine character and loyal following.
The Safaricom Marathon route is one of those courses where runners forget their pace and reach for their phones. The scenery through Isiolo and its surroundings has earned this race a reputation as one of the most photogenic in Africa.
