2008Established in 2008, the Madeira Island Ultra Trail is now 18 years old. From its first edition in Funchal, it has evolved into a race that reflects the character of its host region in Portugal.

Starting from Funchal's coastal promenade, this spectacular ultra trail ascends into Madeira's volcanic peaks via ancient mountain paths and levadas (irrigation channels), passing through cloud forests and moorland terrain. Runners navigate steep climbs through endemic flora, traverse ridge-line sections with panoramic Atlantic views, and descend into verdant valleys before finishing at sea level, showcasing the island's dramatic topography.
